It's finished! It took a while, due to the whole crappy sewing machine/sitting on the floor situation. The machine can't even reverse stitch without catching, so please forgive the sloppy sewing!
That said, I really love it. It's one of the best things I've made in ages.
Pattern: Minoru Jacket from Sewaholic Patterns. I definitely recommend this pattern!
Supplies: Fabric is all from Tomato, in Nippori, Tokyo. Fur and zips are from Okadaya in Tokyo. Buttons are from an old jacket, and happened to match the fabric perfectly.
Pattern adjustments: I lined the hood, added pockets with faux-flaps and buttons, added straps on the wrists and took a couple of centimetres width off the cuffs coz they looked too puffy with the thick fabric. I don't really like the exposed zip on a jacket look, so over the zip I sewed a placket on top, with button loops, and sewed buttons to the front left side. My zip goes right to the bottom, because Japan has bizarre sizing in zips and I could only get super long zips... and I like it better that way. Oh, and in regards to the lining, I wanted it to show on the neck lining so I used the lining fabric instead of the outer fabric on the inside collar piece.
I think that's all! It's super warm, and I love wearing it. Awesome pattern, good sizing, flattering cut.

This looks AMAZING!!! Definitely my favorite version I've seen so far. I can't believe you even put fur around the hood!
Thanks so much! I decided to go all out with all the extras - gold zips, fur.... I'm so happy with the way it turned out.
How amazing is this?? I love all the details you added - this is my favorite Minoru by far! I even like it better than mine :)
This is so lovely!! I have mine sitting in a pile (cut out) in my sewing room and just can't get started... but you've definitely motivated me! Fantastic work :)
OMG this is awesome! Well done.
This is great! It looks like it came from a store. All of the extra design elements you added are so awesome. Great job! I hope you have fun wearing it. I've had mine finished for a few weeks now and can't stop wearing it :)
I LOVE your pockets!
It looks like you bought it. It's awesome! I'll post my minoru tomorrow but it's nowhere near as beautiful as yours!
WOW is all I can say! Love your modifications and the plaid lining. What kind of fabric is the outer shell?
I agree. Just gorgeous.
Love the fur that you added to the hood! What a great idea.
Thanks for the lovely comments everyone! Re. the style, it's kinda just what everyone was rocking in Japan for winter, which I wanted but can't really fit because... I am not Japanese, lol.
@Andrea B - the outer is some kind of thick cotton drill/brushed cotton - the outside looks like a woven kind of drill but inside is nice and soft. There wasn't a label on it when I bought it, in the 100円 section!
I love your jacket. Looks really good.
Oh, you have made this pattern your very own with the addition of fur. So cute!
beautiful! I love your version! really one of my favourites!
Love your Minoru! It looks way better than the All Saints one (more color and funky details). I've almost finished the muslin today. Looking forward for the public holiday on Tuesday (I also live in Japan) to sew it all together.
Wow this is what my Minoru wished it had been! I went down the tartan lumberjack lining too... But your hood, the buttons... Simply amazing.
That is awesome!!! I love it! I think you've inspired me to go buy that pattern now.
I love this coat !!! I love the fur and it does look incredibly like the All Saints versions. I am intend making one for Winter.
Wow, I love all the adjustments you made! The fur and the buttons are great ideas!
Love this jacket - the placket is genius. What fabric is the outer shell?
@sewbusylizzy, the outer fabric is just a soft cotton drill, with a flannel inside. I don't know exactly what they are since I bought them in Tokyo and my Japanese is pretty bad... :-)
I was so close to making a minoru last year, and then realized that I don't need another coat. But seeing yours has put it back in my head! Really nice, one of my favorites!
I know you posted this yonks ago, but this coat looks great! Can you tell me what kind of fabric you used? I'm in the middle of a fabric dilemma at the moment with mine, and your looks like exactly the kind of fabric I want to use!
Thanks! I am wearing it now for a third winter and still loving it :-) the outer is a thick cotton drill, but quite soft, a bit brushed, if you know what I mean. Then the inside is a brushed flannel. They are both quite soft but still firm enough to give a bit of body. And so warm!
god your minoru is definitely my favorite <3 <3
i love love love the button placket
i just would like to make one in duffle_coat style and was looking for an idea to hide the zipper
